Experienced and Committed - Meet our Supervisor Steve Utley

Meet Steve Utley, our Supervisor at Ford Electrical Ltd.  He is experienced, committed and is excited for Ford’s bright future. Here, Steve shares his background in commercial electrical projects and explains why Ford Electrical, are the right choice for your next electrical project.

Starting out in 1982, I served a 5 year Electrical Apprenticeship. Following this I had 10 years as an Electrician working on commercial and industrial and healthcare projects in the latter years as a supervising electrician.

I was promoted to project management in the mid 1990's and after leaving Steane Electrical I joined EIC Ltd (Stratford Upon Avon) to predominantly work in the retail sector of electrical contracting, managing new build projects throughout the UK for Tesco' Extras and Asda. Culminating in the project management of a £1.5M electrical installation for a -40 degree Tesco distribution warehouse in Daventry, fully automated and the first of it's kind in the UK.

Following a further move back to Steane in the 2000's, I concentrated on electrical installations involving bespoke heritage work for the National Trust including the complete re-wiring of Coughton Court over the course of 4 phases using Pyrotenax MICC cables throughout. Acting as Principal Contractor we managed all other trades including fire protection and asbestos removal. I've had the pleasure of being involved with significant projects at many National Trust properties including Baddesley Clinton, Snowshill Manor, Hidcote Manor and Croome Court amongst many others.

My strengths, I feel, are communication and honesty towards clients. It is important that they are kept aware of all aspects of a project from conception to final account and variations. I find that this philosophy works well to ensuring repeat business and a way of strengthening professional relationships. Also, having served as an electrician I can understand and apply my 'hands on' knowledge which I feel is invaluable as a project manager.

Since joining Ford Electrical under the wing of the Heming Group I have been struck by passion and commitment from my colleagues and directors, in particular during the time when the pandemic hit our shores just after my joining.

It's a testament to the Heming Group and its directors/employees that we are here today and going from strength to strength.

I feel the future at Ford is full of excellent opportunities and to continue to support our core clients and grow our business  in developing work with Local Education Authorities and Healthcare Organisations.
